The Post Graduate Taught Experience Survey Privacy Notice

 

Before you start the survey, please read this privacy statement which tells you how any personal data you submit with your responses to this survey will be utilised and protected, and the rights you have in relation to it.

The University of Wolverhampton (‘The University’, ‘we’ or ‘us’) are a ‘Data Controller’, as defined by the Data Protection Act 2018 and are responsible for, and control the processing of your Personal Data. The Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) is carried out by Advance HE on behalf of higher education providers including The University.  Jisc (an organisation which provides IT and data support in the higher education sector) stores and transmits the survey data to Advance HE on The University’s behalf.  The University is the Data Controller of your personal data and has legal responsibility to safeguard the information and ensure it is processed in accordance with data protection laws.

Data you provide in response to the PTES will be used by The University for analysis, to improve our understanding of the postgraduate experience and inform decisions about our postgraduate provision.  All participating institutions have agreed not to identify any individuals when reporting their results both internally and externally, and to use their best efforts to ensure that no individuals can be identified by implication.  It is important that you follow the guidance within the survey itself to avoid including potentially identifiable information about yourself or others in your responses.

Your personal data and survey responses will not be used for the purposes of identifying you or to make any decisions about you personally. You will not be identified in any publication by The University which relates to the survey results. Some information we hold about you as part of your student record (for example, ethnicity, age) is automatically attached to your survey response so that you don’t have to fill it in again.

The full dataset will be available to Advance HE in order to conduct national level research and analysis. Access to the raw data is restricted to the Department of Planning and Evaluation for analysis purposes. After that all staff within the institution have access to anonymised results. 

We process your personal data on the basis of your consent. You can withdraw your consent to have your survey responses used in the ways described here and we will destroy your individual survey response, however we will keep the aggregate data which does not identify you within our datasets.

You are able to withdraw your consent at any time in the future, should you wish to withdraw your consent please contact dataprotection@wlv.ac.uk

 

Retention

The raw data is retained for up to three years from the point of collection. This will allow us to make comparisons with the results the next time we run PTES with future students.

 

Your Rights

As an individual, you have a number of rights available to you. How to Complain

If you have any queries, concerns or believe that your Personal Data is being handled in a manner which is contrary to statutory requirements, you may wish to contact the University of Wolverhampton’s Data Protection Officer via dataprotection@wlv.ac.uk or complain to the ICO via www.ico.org.uk
