Theatre acts on providing support for local writers

The Arena Theatre has teamed up with a creative programme to develop a writing development opportunity for local people.

The University of Wolverhampton theatre, based at the City Campus in Wolverhampton, is working alongside Nottingham Playhouse and In Good Company to increase the support on offer for writers across the region.

In Good Company is the flagship professional creative and business development programme for theatre makers and companies in the Midlands, providing mentorship, business support, resources and high-profile performance opportunities.

The creative programme is offering an opportunity for a Midlands writer who is developing a new piece of work, offering rehearsal space at the Arena Theatre with a week of rehearsal space at Nottingham Playhouse plus presentation and technical support and the potential for a rehearsed reading at the Departure Lounge Festival.

Neil Reading, Manager at the Arena Theatre, said: “In Good Company has transformed how artists and venues communicate and co-create exciting new performance platforms, commissions and touring networks.

“This new new-writing development opportunity aims to support writers in their careers to get feedback, raise their profile, connect them with opportunities and organisations and support them to help themselves in the future.”

The deadline for submissions is 22nd March 2019 and is open to writers who have some experience of writing for the stage and who is willing to receive feedback on their work. Submit ten pages of the script alongside a short synopsis of the full play (200 words). A panel consisting of the IGC Creative Producer, Artistic Director at Arena Theatre and the Artist Development Producer at Nottingham Playhouse will review applications.

A Guide for Applicants is available here.
