University of Wolverhampton students hold fashion show

21/06/2019

Students from the University of Wolverhampton held a fashion show at the Light House Cinema to raise awareness of mental health, the dangers of social media and homelessness.

And more than 150 people turned out to catch a glimpse of the 15 models which took to the catwalk, wearing outfits designed by the 10 third-year BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles students.

Keshia Lawrence said: "It was all the final year students, they helped organise it together.

"The models are volunteered, they were just friends of friends.

"It was chose because we were given our brief and we took it more personally.

"This year I chose homelessness because you see a lot of it around Wolverhampton.

"We also had social media, mental illnesses and modesty outfits – you can look beautiful when you're fully-clothed too.

"We all added our own elements."

Leaflets were handed out by the students to showcase what the event was held for.

The 29-year-old, from Bilston, said: "The models did a catwalk in the square and did some posing as well.

"It was a celebration of all of our hard work."

Pieces from the show will be sent to designers in London where they will be showcased, as part of the course.

Jo Bloodworth, Lecturer in Fashion & Textiles at the University, said: "Our students organised a fashion show as part of a celebration at the Light House Cinema.  We are so proud of how everyone pulled together to make the show happen.  The students are now preparing for the 'New Designers' exhibition in London where they will put their work on show to industry alongside other universities.  It's a really exciting time for them."
