International Foundation Year students rise to the challenge of online study

University of Wolverhampton students on the International Foundation Year at the International Academy have risen to the challenge of engaging well online despite the extraordinary circumstances and have made great progress.

Angela Molinari, Principal of the International Academy at the University, said: “I continue to be overwhelmed by the progress made by our students on the International Foundation Year.

"Their academic and personal growth, and preparedness to begin their undergraduate programmes, is testament to their hard work, but also to the dedication of the academic and the administration staff at the International Academy; support which continued regardless of the recent pandemic, which was indeed heightened to ensure continued support of our students.”

Kimberly Anstey, Senior Lecturer at the University, said: “The International Foundation Year develops students’ understanding of the expectations of a UK degree course, guides them in adjusting to life in Britain and helps them improve their English and academic skills.

"This semester, working closely with staff, our motivated students have risen to the challenge of engaging well online despite the extraordinary circumstances. I believe the confidence, understanding and personal relationships students have gained on the IFY will continue to enrich their experiences on their degree courses and beyond."

Mohammad Ilham Sayeed, International Foundation Year student from Afghanistan, said: “I really enjoyed this course from the first day and I would definitely recommend it to everyone because of the help and support they have for international students.

"I have gained all the academic skills which will assist me to cope well with my main degree course, the foundation year was really a privilege for me to learn the most important skills of my academic life.”

Gioan Peloumpi, International Foundation Year student from Greece, said: "I feel the International Foundation Year is making me much more confident and it has helped me to improve my academic writing. The facilities at the University are really extraordinary and with the help of the lecturers, I have gained tremendous confidence and independence.

"From the beginning the staff and especially the lecturers made me feel welcomed and relaxed and the teaching materials that the International Academy offers are absolutely indispensable."

Evelyn Asogbon-Ikuesan, International Foundation Year student from Nigeria, said: “The International Academy has helped me to know and see the inside of what I am going to need in my student career, which is Law.

"With the help of the lecturers I have achieved a lot and overall I have really enjoyed my stay at the International Academy.”
