Student Update: Faculty Student Services Contact Points, Library and Student Q&A Video

Please be aware that this information was shared with students by email and correct at the time of sending. For the latest Covid-19 guidance, please visit our coronavirus webpages: www.wlv.ac.uk/coronavirus. If you are a student who has a query or needs support, please log a helpcall with ASK@WLV in e:Vision (www.wlv.ac.uk/evision).

Following the Government’s announcement that universities would remain open during the national lockdown this month, we have been working to ensure there is additional support on our campuses for those who wish to use them.

From this week, starting on Monday 9 November 2020, there will be three specialist Faculty Student Services Contact Points. These will co-locate our Faculty Student Services teams with Library staff and you can drop in if you have a query whilst you are on campus. Remember though that all queries can also be made online via the e:Vision Helpdesk.

The hours of operation are:

  • Monday to Thursday: 10 am to 4 pm
  • Friday: 10 am to 3 pm
The locations are:

Walsall – Performance Hub
  • Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing (FEHW) and Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences (FABSS) Faculty Student Services and Library staff.
Wolverhampton City Campus (Molineux) – Lord Swraj Paul Building (MU202)
  • FABSS Faculty Student Services staff.
Wolverhampton City Campus (Wulfruna) - Harrison Library
  • FEHW and Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) Faculty Student Services and Library staff.
We are working to open a similar service at our Telford Campus, and in the meantime Faculty Student Services support continues to be available online via the e:Vision Helpdesk for students with courses based there and at Burton.

The Welcome Points that have been open on campus since the start of the semester will close as planned, and this service will replace it.

Library opening times

Harrison and Walsall Libraries are open:
  • Monday to Thursday: 8.30 am to 10 pm
  • Friday and Saturday: 8.30 am to 7 pm

Hutchison Library (Telford) is open Monday to Friday: 9 am to 5 pm

All library services and facilities currently operating on campus will continue to be available – this includes click and collect for books, bookable study and PC spaces, and laptop loans.

For the duration of the lockdown in England, the Library will be suspending all recalls on items students have on loan. Items will continue to renew automatically, and therefore, no overdue fines will be charged. Students will not need to return any items on loan until after the lockdown period ends on the 2 December however, should they choose to do so, the facilities will be available.

Study Spaces

We have plenty of study and PC spaces available at City, Walsall and Telford libraries. You can book these up to two weeks in advance or on the day. Details are available on the library webpages.

In addition, you can book a space when you arrive as long as there is availability. Just ask the library staff for help if you’re not sure how to book.

Stay safe, cover your face, sanitise your space

When using classrooms, study spaces and PC areas it is important that everyone follows some simple rules to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone.

Therefore you must:
  • Wear a face covering in all learning environments including the library, classrooms, study spaces, PC areas, and walking around campus.
  • Keep 2 metres safe distance from others. Do not use the spaces if they are too busy and you cannot maintain 2m safe distance.
  • Wash your hands regularly and use the hand sanitiser provided.
  • Use the cleaning kit to wipe down desks, keyboards, and other equipment before and after use.
  • Follow the signs and floor markings. Spaces have been arranged to ensure you can social distance - only use the spaces designated for use and don’t move chairs or other furniture.

Support for Students

The pandemic has created and exacerbated many challenges for us all and we have a range of services to support your wellbeing during this time. All of our students can access online mental health and wellbeing support 24/7 through Togetherall – an online community monitored by trained clinicians. In addition to this our own dedicated Mental Health and Wellbeing Service offers one-to-one support and can signpost you to additional support services.

Find out more about the student support services available to you here: www.wlv.ac.uk/support

Our staff and students continue to show great resilience and flexibility at this time. The role you are all playing in following the rules and guidance means we continue to keep our university community as safe as is possible.

Many thanks, and stay safe.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor
