Resources for You and Your Students

As a member of academic staff, you can request that the Library provides appropriate resources to support your course.

Examples of the types of key resources we can supply include:

  • books
  • eBooks
  • print and electronic journals
  • digitised journal articles and book chapters
  • DVDs and other audio-visual resources
  • specialist software

Specialised resources can be purchased in negotiation with your Liaison Librarian.

Ideally, requests for key resources should be made before the academic year begins, although we recognise that new publications appear throughout the year.

To request a new resource, staff should email the Liaison Team at: LISLiaison@wlv.ac.uk.

Books, journals and databases

Our process for purchasing new resources to underpin teaching is driven by your module reading list. It is essential that you complete the appropriate sections for books, journals database and software, and keep updated when reviewing the module content.

We can advise on sourcing new titles, e-books, new editions, and suggest alternatives such as digitising chapters and articles to aid accessibility whilst operating within the CLA digitisation and scanning licence.

Note that we cannot take responsibility for any additional resources listed on Canvas or lists handed out in class. For more info see our Module Guidance (Word doc 23k).

Academic staff and researchers can also suggest recommendations for purchase.

Copyright and Digitisation

The University has signed up to a number of Educational Licensing Agencies covering a range of formats and publishing agencies to enable staff to operate legally when copying and digitising material. Further information is available on the Copyright pages. We will be able to advise academic staff on maximising access to resources taking advantage of some of these agreements. Contact us for more information.

Resources outside the University

Inter-Library Loans

If a book, journal article, thesis or conference paper isn't in our stock, we can usually get it for you from another library, generally the British Library.

More information on requesting items is available on the Inter-Library Loans page.

Using other libraries

You may wish to make use of resources at other libraries:

In the UK

SCONUL Access is a co-operative venture between most of the higher education libraries in the UK and Ireland. Staff, research and postgraduate students, and part-time distance learning and placement undergraduate students are able to borrow items; full-time undergraduates are able to use these libraries for reference. http://www.sconul.ac.uk/

To find your local Public Library in England and Wales https://www.gov.uk/local-library-services.

Outside the UK

WorldCat is the world's largest network of library content and services. It lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world. Select ‘Find a Library’ to search for a library near you.
