GETTING RESULTS: New path for India through Clearing

12/08/2019

Returning to education was a big decision for India Minton-Barker, but she found the University of Wolverhampton to be the supportive and friendly environment she wanted.

India was 26 when she applied to do a BA (Hons) in Marketing and Events Management at the University through Clearing.

“I hadn’t been in education for a very long time and I wasn’t sure which course to choose,” she says. “I had done some marketing for a company and I knew that was something I was interested in. It was quite late in the academic year so I decided to go through Clearing as that was the only option available to me really.”

India, from Telford, was asked to write an essay about why she was deserving of the place, and within two weeks she had heard she was in!

She adds: “I found Clearing a really positive experience. I was really worried and thought people might be judgmental about it being such a long time since I had been in education and wondering if I was going to be able to do it. But actually everybody was really kind and made me feel like it was the right decision from the start.

“I did a BA (Hons) Marketing and Events Management and it was a really nice community. The lecturers were great and the people on my course were fantastic. I was worried it could be quite exam based but it was lots of different things – reports, presentations and lots of hands-on and interactive activities.

“To anyone considering going through Clearing, I would say just go for it. You will be happy that you are in the right place.”
