Music Graduate Sounding the Right Notes on BBC Drama

University of Wolverhampton Music graduate and composer, Alice Trueman, has been commissioned to compose the soundtrack for a new BBC dramatisation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters.

An imaginative reworking of the Russian classic, “Three Sisters Rewired”, co-produced with the BBC by Graeae and Naked Productions, will premiere on Radio 4 on Saturday 14^th and 21^st December. 

Updating the early twentieth-century masterpiece about three sisters’ dreams of returning to a previously idyllic life in Moscow, this production explores the impact of rural isolation and the financial pressures faced by the farming community. With the main protagonists of the three sisters played by D/deaf actors, the play also breaks new ground in having the score performed by deaf flautist, Ruth Montgomery.

Since graduating from Wolverhampton University with an MMus in Composition and Songwriting, Alice’s music career has gone from strength to strength. Her compositional work has been described as “Superb” in The Stage and “Outstanding” by The Sunday Times.

With commissions for Channel 4, BBC and numerous independent films in her portfolio, Alice brings a wealth of professional, industry experience to her teaching of Music and the Moving Image on the undergraduate Music degree at the University of Wolverhampton.

Composition modules feature throughout our undergraduate offerings on BA Music for Education and Community Practice as well as BMus Music. Students are taught to work with different client groups and diverse needs through the media of composition and improvisation on the BA Music for Education and Community Practice. This course also promotes digital composition and music for film with specific focus on this in the final year of the degree programme.
