Explosive event in Stafford

19/07/2019

Explosive experiments will take over the heart of the County town next week with ‘A Volatile History of Chemistry’ in Stafford.

Hosted by the University of Wolverhampton in Stafford, the FREE interactive workshop will take place at the Gatehouse Theatre.

The interactive workshop is for any youngster (8+) who has an interest in how chemicals work, and want to find out more in a fun and non-formal environment.

‘Volatile History of Chemistry’ is one of many STEM events the Stafford based centre is hosting for children over the summer break.  Speaking about the time travelling adventure through the history of chemistry,  Dr Martin Khechara, Fellow of Public Engagement for STEM, said:  "Starting with Marie and Pierre Curie and ending with the notable Robert Boyle the audience will be taken on an explosive journey to learn about some of the most important laws of chemistry and the people that invented them."

The STEM team at the University of Wolverhampton in Stafford started their summer events last Saturday with a workshop in Stafford Library as part of the SPACECHASE summer reading challenge.  Youngsters were able to learn about stars, how they are formed and make their own zodiac sign star scope.   A similar drop in session will be held at Stone Library this Saturday between 10am and 12 noon.

Stafford centre STEM ambassador Shelley Yelland said: "It is great to see science come to life through the eyes of the children and their parents.

"We are privileged to have Dr Khechara and the team joining us once again in Stafford."

‘There will be a lot of audience participation to the fantastic demonstrations and explosions that the STEM performers will create at the Gatehouse theatre.

Accompanied children 8 and over are invited to the FREE event at the Gatehouse theatre on Wednesday 24th July.  Tickets can be booked via the Gatehouse Theatre box office on 01785 254653 or www.staffordgatehousetheatre.co.uk
