Nursing training programme receives national recognition

A programme developed by The Royal Wolverhampton Trust (RWT) and the University of Wolverhampton to enable nursing staff to gain new qualifications and clinical experience has received a national award.

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) was named the best workplace for learning and development at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2019 in The Brewery in London.

The nomination and award recognises the achievements of the Trust's nursing clinical fellowship programme developed in collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton.

The nursing programme was launched in September 2018 and has now recruited more than 100 band 5 staff nurses from the UK and further afield.

Professor Ann-Marie Cannaby, chief nurse at RWT, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to win this award as we were up against extremely strong competition.

"It is fantastic recognition for the team's hard work and dedication.

"The teams have worked tirelessly to launch and also run our very successful nursing clinical fellowship programme. The programme provides nurses not only with excellent clinical practice exposure but also access to structured and supported educational development to enable nurses to 'top up' to degree level or progress to Masters Level.

"This award demonstrates what fabulous opportunities are available for nurses at RWT and recognises that the Trust is a great employer."

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, said: "We are delighted that the successful nursing clinical fellowship programme has been recognised at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards. We are proud to be working in partnership with The Royal Wolverhampton Trust to provide a high quality training programme with clinical experience, enhanced qualifications and career progression for the healthcare workforce in our region."

This is the second year the Trust has won a Nursing Times Workforce Award.

Last year RWT won an award for its work improving the recruitment experience of international nurses.
