Wolverhampton Type:Photography by Tom Hicks - Private View

28/01/2020

The Wolverhampton Literature Festival will be opened with a first look at a new exhibition by University of Wolverhampton librarian, Tom Hicks.

Wolverhampton Type: Photography by Tom Hicks will be on display at the Private View on Friday 31st January at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 6.00 pm until 7.30 pm.

This exhibition presents new photographs of Wolverhampton as part of Tom's ongoing project, 'Black Country Type'. In this series of images he has applied his unique aesthetic to the region, focusing on words, typography, hand made lettering and signs.  He also photographs types of architectural features and objects in the post-industrial landscape of the area.

For Wolverhampton Types, Hicks has turned his attention to the city and its surrounding areas including Bushbury, Heath Town, Graiseley and Horseley Fields.

The images in this collection range from large-scale Victorian architecture to hand-painted domestic garages. Whilst the subject matter could be considered 'every day' in nature, Hicks' approach conveys the idea that 'beauty is in the street'.

Refreshments will be available.

The exhibition runs until 22nd February 2020.
