Briefing to explore how Shropshire business can benefit from digital realities

05/01/2021

SOLVD, an initiative run by the University of Wolverhampton and Telford and Wrekin Council, are hosting a free, virtual technology briefing on January 19 which will explore how immersive technologies can benefit Shropshire-based businesses.

Participants will learn more about how virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (XR) can provide meaningful business benefits to your company, with real-life case studies from companies who have adopted this technology.

The session will also show how businesses can adopt these technologies, understand more about the return on investment (ROI), and get access to University expertise and access to funding.

Iain Wheeler, Knowledge Transfer Manager, said: “The UK is currently Europe’s largest market for virtual, augmented and mixed reality, and research indicates that immersive technologies in enterprise and industry will be a dominant driver for future global growth.

“Major advances in head-mounted displays have opened-up new opportunities for our content and services sectors, location-based experiences are attracting new audiences and consumer uptake is on the rise.

“At the same time, the key enabling technologies of artificial intelligence, machine learning and 5G are expected to make immersive experiences richer and more accessible, opening up new possibilities for content and application producers.”

During the event, the University’s Immersive Tech Suite will be showcased, providing an opportunity to learn more about how the University’s SOLVD project can provide access to equipment, expertise and direct support to help deliver local business’s XR collaborative project.

Mark Sage, Executive Director of The AREA, Tim Luft from VRSS and University of Wolverhampton’s Dr Adam Worrallo will all be speaking at the event.

The AREA is the only global non-profit, member-based organization dedicated to widespread adoption of interoperable AR-enabled enterprise systems. Their mission is to help companies to achieve greater operational efficiency through the smooth introduction and widespread adoption of interoperable AR-assisted enterprise systems.
