The Marches Centre of Excellence for Health and Social Care

The new Marches Centre of Excellence in Health and Social Care provides state-of-the-art training facilities for the next generation of key workers. The centre has been developed with funding from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) in collaboration with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

Building upon the introduction of nursing provision at the University of Wolverhampton’s Telford Campus in September 2019, it supports our continuing work with local NHS and other health and social care partners to develop courses that meet local demand.

The centre proactively addresses shortfalls in health professionals across the Marches area, and places an emphasis on local people and students who will become key workers within the area. The project has transformed an existing space in the Angad Paul Building at our Telford Campus to create new skills and simulation facilities that can be used across health and social care disciplines.

Facilities include a room dedicated to paramedic science, a mock house, and varied teaching and student social spaces. Advanced anatomy visualisation tables allow students to ‘see’ inside the human body. Further facilities include an immersive reality interactive simulation (IRIS) suite for emergency planning and simulations for a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings, interview and mock office environments for social work training, and student collaboration spaces.
