Science in industry Research Centre (SIRC) showcase on 28 October 2021

The Science in Industry Research Centre (SIRC) based at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park is holding its third online showcase on Thursday, 28 October at 10 am GMT.

This event has a packed agenda with a focus on the exciting world of Polymers and Biotechnology. The target audience is local small and medium enterprises (SMEs); however, everyone interested in the applied sciences is welcome.

After an introduction from the Centre Director and a short presentation from the Project Manager (Alana Correa), there are presentations from other members of the SIRC team. This includes a video tour of the facilities used by SIRC, which includes the FabLab at the Science Park in Wolverhampton. There are also presentations from some of the Research and Innovation Graduates.

Mattia Parati will be talking about the use of Biotechnology in Modern Industry, Dr Nikolay Kondratyev will be sharing his work on Polymers and their many applications, and Michael Ansah will present work on Antimicrobial Compounds. There will also be a testimonial from a local company (CarSeq) who are currently in a research collaboration agreement with SIRC designing CO2 sequestration devices to help reduce pollution.

The program will have a discussion and networking section towards the end, where anyone can put forward questions and perhaps start a dialogue with the team. The program will then be closed by Professor Andrew Pollard, who is the SIRC Project Director.

Dr Brian Johnston, the SIRC Research Associate said, “Previous online SIRC showcases have been effective introducing us to local industry. In fact, a biochemistry project we are now working on began shortly after an attendee saw some of our lab equipment during a presentation, and realised we could assist them with synthesising a product.”

Tickets are FREE via Eventbrite and will be available from mid-September. This event is part-funded by ERDF. For more information on SIRC and what they can offer, follow them on Twitter (@SIRC_wlv) or email them directly at SIRC@wlv.ac.uk.
