Advice for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

Support for you

We are committed to supporting all our deaf and hard-of-hearing students to succeed. Here you will find useful advice and resources to help you make the most of your university experience.   

Here are some videos on funding and how to apply. All videos are either BSL or close-captioned.

As a student at the University of Wolverhampton, you may be eligible for additional funding depending on your current circumstances.  

Access Bursary

As a person with deafness/hearing loss or other hearing impairment who is eligible for support via the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) (which has been declared to the University prior to enrolment), you may be eligible for the £2000 Access Bursary.

Dennis Turner Hardship Fund

The Dennis Turner Hardship Fund offers funding support for students who are experiencing genuine financial hardship. Awards do not have to be repaid and can contribute to meeting the costs of childcare, accommodation, books and equipment, a disability, travel and utilities.

Applications are made through e:Vision.

The Sign Language Society (SLS) has been running since 2008 and this is where you get to meet current Deaf students as well as other Deaf people who are both local and from all over the UK along with Deaf students who have already graduated - you can also meet BSL Interpreting and Deaf Studies students there too.
