Event for Shropshire businesses on 5G and the Industrial Internet of Things

SOLVD, an initiative run by the University of Wolverhampton and Telford and Wrekin Council, is running another free technology briefing, this time focussing on how 5G will transform the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and how this can help Shropshire start-ups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The event ‘Transform your business through 5G and Industrial Internet of thing (IIoT)’ will take place on 12 May, 10 am to 11:30 am.

It aims to support Shropshire start-ups and SMEs to understand how 5G can benefit their companies, and break down the technological jargon

Course Coordinator of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics and member of Wolverhampton Cyber Research Institute (WCRI) Dr Ali Sadiq said: “5G and beyond wireless networks refer to future generations of mobile wireless.

“They offer peak data rates of ten Gigabits per second (Gbps) and can handle 10,000 times more traffic than other early generations of wireless networks such as 4G and 3G.

“5G offers ultra-reliable, fast response times; it has a latency time of one-millisecond, which will allow machines in the IIOT to interact with each other and the remote controller in a much more stable and reliable manner.

“This will eventually allow machines using mobile networks to react faster than humans to received sensed data, as the reaction time between the human’s eye and the brain is around ten milliseconds.

“With 5G networks having a latency of only one millisecond, producing real-time communication between connected sensors and machines can be achievable for the first time, for instance in Industry 4.0 and IIoT.”

In addition to the focus on 5G and IIoT, there will be information on accessing University expertise and fully funded support to investigate and implement digital technologies in their businesses.

Bookings for the event are being taken via Eventbrite: https://5gandindustrialinternetofthings.eventbrite.co.uk

SOLVD is an ERDF funded project led by the University of Wolverhampton in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council to support SMEs in Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire with the implementation of digital technologies.
