Free online festival urges Wolves residents to give learning a go

The University of Wolverhampton will be celebrating and promoting how learning can improve and transform lives at the Wolverhampton City Learning Region’s forthcoming Learning Festival. 

The University is one of the Wolverhampton City Learning Region (WCLR) initiative’s core partners and is co-ordinating the learning festival in collaboration with members across the city to celebrate learning and promote opportunities. 

WCLR partners include City of Wolverhampton Council, Wolverhampton Learning Communities, Wolverhampton Learning Platform, City of Wolverhampton College, Adult Education Wolverhampton as well as volunteering and community organisations. 

The virtual festival will take place on Friday 30 April 2021 and will include a programme of FREE online activities – some of which are taking place live and some will be available to access at any time. 

Residents who live, work or study in Wolverhampton are also being encouraged to share their learning stories on the WCLR Love Learning website to build a collection of inspirational stories. 

Professor Nazira Karodia, Pro-Vice Chancellor Regional Engagement at the University, said: “I am delighted that, as part of the city’s pandemic recovery processes, city learning partners are able to come together to run this learning festival.   

“People often don’t realise that learning throughout life has many benefits and these are wide-ranging and can really make a difference to the lives of people who live in our communities. Taking part in learning is also a great way to keep active and improve wellbeing in addition to having fun. 

“The focus of the Learning Festival for this year is on promoting the benefits of learning, particularly in difficult times and signposting to what opportunities are on offer as we move out of lockdown. The festival will include a celebration of inspiring learners and their stories hosted by the Mayor of Wolverhampton.  Sharing learning stories will help to profile the many ways in which learning is transforming lives in Wolverhampton. 

“I would encourage city residents to engage in learning of some kind, starting with those on offer through the festival.”   

Wolverhampton City Learning Region partners are working to support the city’s efforts to help residents through the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, including providing access to learning opportunities for those who have lost jobs through to helping them adapt their skills to find new employment or change careers.   

Learning opportunities taking place in May and June will also be promoted through the Learning Festival supported by a forthcoming Social Media campaign.  Partners are also planning activities to connect to the learning festival such as a Kindness Connection session for students at City of Wolverhampton College in partnership with the Ethnic Minority Council / Wolverhampton Equality and Diversity Partnership.
