University health and social care centre wins top award

The Marches Centre of Excellence for Health and Social Care has been awarded ‘Best Project Delivering Social Value’ in this year’s Pagabo Awards.

National framework provider, Pagabo has announced the winners of its annual celebration of industry excellence ahead of the Pagabo Awards 2022.

In the category for ‘Best Project Delivering Social Value’ Pagabo crowned Overbury, the UK’s leading fit out specialist as winners for the Marches Centre of Excellence in Health and Social Care at the University of Wolverhampton.

Working with the University, Overbury was appointed to the Marches Centre of Excellence in Health and Social Care to provide fit out services via Pagabo’s Refit & Refurbishment Framework. The end results were the best achieved by Overbury to date, resulting in every £1 spent generating £3.77 for the local economy.

The new £5 million Marches Centre of Excellence for Health and Social Care in Telford includes state-of-the-art training facilities for courses including nursing, paramedic and social care students.

The Centre, which has received £3.5m Growth Deal funding from the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), will enable students to gain hands-on, real-life experience of the profession they will enter and ensure they have the skills and knowledge to benefit employers.

Tim Steele, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Opportunities) at the University of Wolverhampton said: “It is fantastic our partnership with Overbury has been recognised in this way and how the investment in the University by the Marches LEP has also benefited the wider local economy.

“The Marches Centre of Excellence for Health and Social Care is going from strength to strength as we see growing student numbers primarily from the locality benefiting from this outstanding facility.”

Penelope Mitchell, Business Development Manager at Overbury Central, said: “Receiving this award from Pagabo underpins the consideration that has been given to the community throughout this project by the entire Overbury team involved. Supporting the local economy delivers benefits for so many people that extend far beyond the boundaries of the Centre of Excellence and we are immensely proud of this recognition.”

Mandy Thorn MBE, chair of the Marches LEP, said: “I am delighted at this recognition which is hugely deserved. Our partnership with the University of Wolverhampton has helped create a first-class training centre in a vital sector and at a time when it is most urgently needed. It will help train health and social care professionals to the highest standards for years to come, mean we can retain more of our young talent in this region and create new high-value jobs and opportunities.”
