New Year New Hobby

For the start of 2026 we are encouraging the university community to try something new this month and have a selection of books for inspiration. Alongside displays in our libraries, for you to borrow from, we also have a collection online to browse.

As a university library, our goal is not only to support you through your academic assignments, but to generally enhance your university experience. It is important to take breaks to rest between work and a great way to rest is to try and pick up a new craft or skill. 

We have books on an array of different skills and hobbies, including: 

  • Picking up a new language 
  • Knitting and crochet 
  • Sketching and drawing 
  • Photography 
  • Dress-making 
  • Learning a new sport 
  • Cooking 
  • And many more. 

This display goes hand in hand with the National Year of Reading with it’s slogan: If you’re into it, read into it (see our blog post for for more details on the national campaign Go All In).

So if you see our display, pick up a book and try something new.
