Why choose this course?

This RCN-accredited course is aligned with NHS England guidance and is accredited by the RCN to prepare you for the Professional Advocate role. At the University of Wolverhampton, you will learn from field experts on a skills-focused curriculum that equips healthcare professionals to address workplace health and wellbeing issues as you develop confidence to support both individuals and teams within the workplace and beyond.

You will engage in one-to-one and peer-group restorative clinical supervision, developing the capability to apply the formative, normative, restorative and quality-improvement functions of the A-EQUIP model. Although designed specifically for Professional Advocates in nursing and midwifery, the knowledge and skills gained are readily transferable across other healthcare professions.

What's unique about this course?

Our Royal College of Nursing (RCN)-accredited course meets the RCN standards for Professional Advocate (PA) training. At the University of Wolverhampton, the curriculum centres on the restorative function of the A-EQUIP (Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement) model as the foundation for the other three functions: normative, formative and quality improvement. The evidence indicated that restoring practitioners' capacity to think within a safe, supportive environment is the gateway to enhanced thinking, learning, and personal and professional development. To ensure graduates can provide this level of support to colleagues and peers, we place strong emphasis on developing supervision skills underpinned by the relevant theory.
