The University has many courses for you to choose from. Once you have an idea of the subject area you wish to study, you can then start to look at the various courses that might interest you.

Choosing the right course for you is important and you may want to consider the following points:

The course – Think carefully and decide which subject area and which course you want to study. What inspires you? Which subject is your strongest? What career path might you want to follow?

Teaching standards – We’re proud of our commendation by the Quality Assurance Agency in the most recent QAA assessment, for the enhancement of student learning opportunities.

Facilities – We continue to invest hundreds of millions of pounds into our offering. Recent additions include our Springfield Campus’s School of Architecture and the Built Environment, the Marches Centre of Excellence for Health and Social Care, our Screen School, and our world-class Pharmacy facilities.

Location – We're at the heart of the UK and with excellent transport links to some of the UK’s most exciting cities, with direct rail links to destinations including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Birmingham. Find out more about living in Wolverhampton.

Employability – 89% of our Class of 2019-20 graduates were found to be in work or studying in the latest Graduate Outcomes report (2022) 18 months after graduation. What’s more, 61% were in highly skilled roles.

Student satisfaction - Top 30 for overall positivity of our students in NSS 2023, according to Times Higher Education.

You may find it useful to seek advice from other people. Talk to your friends or family to get their opinion about your choices, or speak to a teacher or a careers advisor for professional advice.

The Course Finder tool helps you to look for the courses that you are interested in, whether it's at undergraduate or postgraduate level. You can do a quick search by entering a subject, keyword, or course code to narrow down your results.

This search will list all the courses that relate to your search. For results that relate to Postgraduate courses, you would simply use the Postgraduate search box.

Some handy tips: The search looks for both the title of your course as well as related areas, for example, 'Computing' would bring up all courses with 'computing' in the title but also others such as  those covering computer science.

Note:

  • HNC/HNDs and foundation degrees are currently classified as 'undergraduate'. Professional courses such as PGCE, CIMA, and MBA come under 'postgraduate'
  • We offer courses at various levels and in different modes of study to suit you. You can choose to study full-time/part-time/sandwich/top-up degree.

Each course has specific entry requirements that indicate the level of skills and academic ability recommended for the course. This can be found on our course pages, as shown below.

It is important to read through and understand the requirements before you send your application to make sure the course is suitable for you.

Entry requirements can also be non-academic, such as having relevant experience or a DBS (Disclosing and Barring Service) check.

You will see that some of our courses, mainly undergraduate and those where applications are made through UCAS, ask for a certain number of UCAS Tariff points for entry.

The UCAS Tariff is a useful reference table, as it allows you to see if your achievements meet the qualification requirements for a particular course where the requirement may be quoted in points. It covers the majority of UK level 3 qualifications, including A-levels, AS-levels, and BTEC qualifications, but new qualifications are being added all the time. If you hold a qualification that is not listed on our website, the UCAS Tariff Calculator will allow you to understand its equivalency.

For a lot of our non-professional courses, meaning those that are not accredited by an external body, if your qualifications aren’t listed or your grades fall a bit short, then don’t worry: this doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t be able to offer you a place. We can give you guidance, and offers will be made according to your individual experience. We are often able to offer you an alternative course if we can't accept you onto your first choice.

The University of Wolverhampton has always been a place of opportunity. We strive to allow students, whatever their background or circumstances, to fulfill their potential and realise their career ambitions in partnership with a supportive community.

This additional information should be read alongside specific entry requirements for our courses listed on UCAS and course-specific entries on our website. If a level 3 qualification is not listed on course entry requirements, applicants and their advisors should contact the University’s Enquiries team for further advice prior to application. You can contact them via the blue ASK icon at the bottom right hand of this webpage.

Entry qualifications

We generally expect all students to have successfully completed GCSE level study or equivalent.

Individual courses will specify the minimum GCSE requirement in terms of grades and subjects for the majority of courses, this will be a grade C or 4.

Entry requirements and subsequent offers for A level applicants will be expressed in grades rather than the UCAS Tariff.

Standard conditional offers that include A levels require a minimum of at least two full A levels, with the remaining requirement coming from any other level 3 qualifications. General Studies and Critical Thinking A levels are usually accepted, except where specifically excluded on individual course entries.

We are happy to consider applicants who have successfully completed an appropriate level 3 BTEC qualification and have achieved grades sufficient for entry to the first year of the majority of undergraduate programmes. Where additional study is required alongside the BTEC qualification, this is listed on individual course entry requirements.

The University receives significant numbers of applications from Access to HE students who subsequently perform well on their undergraduate studies and details on entry onto our undergraduate programmes for Access students are listed on individual course entry requirements.

We welcome applications from applicants holding level 3 qualifications including CACHE, Scottish Highers, Irish Highers, International BaccalaureateT Levels, and any other relevant level 3 qualifications.

These qualifications are considered acceptable as standalone or in combination with A levels, BTECs, and other typical level 3 qualifications.

Links to apply can be found on each course page.
