Christmas Carol Service 2025 Thursday 11 December

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS UPDATE: Due to ongoing building work at St. Peter's Church, wheelchair access is currently restricted. Whilst a temporary ramp is in place, as there is a the steep slop we advice that any wheelchair users who wish to attend a carol service, instead join in an alternative service taking place in the Student Journey Centre, Millennium City Building, on Wednesday 10 December, at 4pm.  We'll have all the same classic carols, hot drinks, plus better heating and level access. Regrettably, this service will not be BSL signed. Thank you for your understanding - and we are deeply sorry for any inconvenience.

The University's (BSL signed) Christmas Carol Service takes place on Thursday 11 December at 2pm, marking its 59th year of festive tradition. Held at the beautiful St Peter’s Collegiate Church, opposite the Wulfruna Building (MA) City Campus, the candlelit service promises an afternoon rich in music, prayers, and cherished Christmas customs.

This year’s event brings an extra reason to celebrate: a special ceremony to appoint Reverend Geoffrey Wynne as Chaplain Emeritus. Geoffrey’s connection to the University spans decades.  As a young curate, he was first sent to the technical college opposite St Peter’s to explore the possibility of a Chaplaincy. In 1967, he became the University’s first official Chaplain, a role he would hold for an incredible 44 years before retiring.

During his time at the University, Geoffrey also served as Dean of the Anglican Churches in Wolverhampton, and in that capacity, he welcomed our current Lead Chaplain, Revd Dr Sarah Schofield, as Vicar of All Saints Wolverhampton in 2006. Sarah expressed her delight that the Vice-Chancellor and the Bishops of Wolverhampton and Lichfield have agreed to her proposal to honour Geoffrey with this prestigious title.
