Adverse weather – information for students
UPDATE: Friday 9 January 2026, 9am - Students advised not to travel to campus if avoidable
Following our message yesterday regarding adverse weather, we wanted to provide an update on the current situation across our campuses.
Significant snowfall overnight has led to difficult travel conditions across Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas.
As a result, some areas of the University will only be able to operate with a significantly reduced staff presence today. Unless advised otherwise, any planned teaching will be rescheduled, and students are encouraged not to travel to campus.
We have taken steps to minimise disruption where possible, and exams scheduled for today have been rearranged. Whilst University libraries currently remain open, please check the Library Facebook page for updates as there may be disruption to opening times and services, and if unsure, contact the library team before travelling - you can do so using Library Assist 24/7.
As always, the safety of our staff and students is our top priority, and no one is expected to travel if it is unsafe to do so. Please continue to check the University website and social media channels for the latest information.
UPDATE: Thursday 8 January 2026, 4.30pm - Exams scheduled for Friday 9 January postponed
Due to the risk of significant travel disruption, all examinations scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday 9 January, have been postponed to Friday 16 January.
Please note the following important details:
- All postponed exams are being re-planned to take place at the same time and in the same room as currently shown on your timetable for Friday 9 January.
- Your timetable will continue to display the date as 9 January; however, please be aware that all affected exams will take place on 16 January instead.
- If you are unable to attend the rescheduled examination, you will be able to apply for Extenuating Circumstances via e: vision once the relevant submission dates have been updated.
We appreciate your understanding and will contact you again if there are any further updates.
Affected students have been contacted directly. Outside of these rescheduled exams, the University aims to operate as usual.
Please check back for further updates as we continue to monitor the weather situation.
The following update was circulated to students via email on Thursday 8 January 2026.
Dear students,
As you may have seen from recent weather reports, there is the potential for snowfall and other adverse weather conditions over the next couple of days, which may affect travel to some of our campus locations. This information is being shared to help ensure a clear and consistent approach across the University, particularly as exams are taking place this week and welcome events are planned for next week.
The safety of our students, staff and visitors is our highest priority, while also recognising the importance of keeping the University open wherever it is safe to do so. Any decisions relating to campus access or teaching arrangements are made carefully, based on a range of factors and specialist advice.
Where yellow or amber weather warnings are in place, the University will aim to operate as normal and scheduled teaching, exams and events should go ahead unless you are informed otherwise.
If red weather warnings are issued advising against travel, the University is likely to close buildings and teaching activities, including exams, would be rescheduled. Any closures or significant changes will be communicated clearly to students via the University website, email and social media channels. At present, there are no red weather warnings forecast.
If you are unable to attend the University due to adverse weather conditions, you will not be disadvantaged. Please follow any guidance provided by your School or Faculty and make use of available online resources where possible.
We will continue to monitor the weather situation closely over the coming days and will provide updates if there is a safety‑related reason to close a campus or reduce services. Please ensure you regularly check the University website and social media channels for the latest information. For queries regarding exams or wider support, you can contact ASK@WLV.
Best wishes,
Christine Fraser
University Secretary
