Exam and assessment tips and support

05/01/2026

Exams are here, and let's face it - mornings don't always go as planned. But don't worry, we've got some quick tips to help you survive the day - watch the video above.

Your exams are part of the journey you’ve worked hard for, and while the dates are set, remember that the university is dedicated to guiding you through it all. Find Exam dates for 2025/26 here.

Important Points to Remember

  • Double-check your exam time and location in e:Vision, as changes can happen at short notice.

  • Arrive at least 20 minutes early and allow extra time for travel delays.

  • Know the exam rules and behaviours expected of you.

  • Bring your Student ID (or another valid photo ID) and any required stationery. Avoid bringing bulky or unnecessary items.

  • Canvas-based exams: Ensure you can log into your IT account. Use your IT username (not your UoW email address) and password.

  • If you are unfamiliar with the exam building, visit it in advance so you feel confident on the day.

Exam timetables

Exam timetables for home campuses are separate to teaching timetables. Exams may be subject to change at short notice. Please make sure you always refer to your personalised exam timetable in e:Vision for the most accurate information.

Once your timetable is ready, you will:

  • Receive an email from noreply@wlv.ac.uk.

  • See your due date updated in Canvas once your exam date has been finalised.

Please note:

  • Canvas Exams are often scheduled in groups over a longer period of time.

  • Your allocated exam time may be different from the time shown in Canvas or the times your friends/peers have.

  • Canvas will only display the earliest group time — so always check your personal timetable.

Exam support

We know exams can be challenging, but with the right support and adjustments, you can focus on doing your best.

Reasonable Adjustments

If you require exam support because of a disability, specific learning difficulty, or a short- or long-term health condition, please contact the Access Disability & Inclusion team as early as possible, before your exams. To help the team understand your requirements and provide appropriate support, you will be asked to complete the Self-Declaration Form (SDF) through your e:Vision account.
Find out what support is available, deadlines to apply for exam adjustments, and advice on late or temporary requests here.

Fit to Sit Policy

All students must adhere to the Exam Regulations, which should be read alongside the Fit to Sit and Extenuating Circumstances policies.

By entering an exam, you are declaring yourself fit to sit the assessment.
Once you begin, any claim for extenuating circumstances (mitigation) becomes invalid.

If you have approved extenuating circumstances but decide to sit the exam, you must retract your claim in e:Vision before the assessment begins.

Make sure you understand these policies to avoid any issues. If you have questions, seek guidance before your exam day.

Study support

During the assessment period, the University Library is your go-to place for support. They offer regular drop-in sessions, online workshops, extended opening hours and free refreshments.
