We want to make sure that our postgraduate students have the best possible experience while studying at the University of Wolverhampton. To do that we need to know what you think we are doing well and what we can do better.
The following are answers to some of the questions students often ask about the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey.
Frequently asked questions
The Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) is a national survey of postgraduate taught students, which asks for opinions and comments on students’ courses and experiences. The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete.
The PTES is your chance to tell us your thoughts about your course. The results help us compare how we are doing with other institutions, to make changes that will improve what we do in future and to keep doing the things that you value. This will help improve the experience of students like you in the future.
PTES concentrates on your course and includes:
- The experience of teaching and learning, including: staff, learning materials, working with other students
- Engagement and course challenge
- Community
- Assessment and feedback, including supervisor support for dissertation or major project
- Organisation and management, including induction and involvement in course decisions
- Resources
- Support, including for academic skills and for health and wellbeing
- Skills development, including independent learning, research skills and career skills
- Overall satisfaction
Your feedback is important. Over one hundred universities and colleges take part. This means we can compare your experience against similar postgraduates at other institutions to see if we are supporting your learning as we should. We use the findings to improve our courses and the learning experience for future students.
Your survey responses are confidential to the team processing the results and no reporting outside of this team will identify any individual.
The survey asks that any comments you make should not identify yourself or any specific members of staff; however, if identifiers have been included then these will be removed before any results are communicated to the teaching teams.
On Monday 23 February 2026 you will receive an email from ‘Online Surveys’ with a unique link to the survey. The survey will remain open until 1 May 2026.
You will also be able to access the survey at https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/uow-survey/wlv-ptes-2026
If you are using this route to access the survey, you will be asked for a username and password.
- Your username will be your University student number.
- Your password will be your date of birth in the following format: ddmmyyyy (e.g., 2 March 1985 will be 02031985).
If you are unsure about anything to do with the PTES, or have any access difficulties, please contact PTESPRES@wlv.ac.uk.
