Class of 2023: Julius takes an intelligent approach to studying

22/09/2023

Julius Odede, 35, from Lagos, Nigeria, has taken an intelligent approach to studying and has graduated with a First Class degree in Data Science from the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Wolverhampton.

With a background in Engineering and an Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Julius decided that, with a society driven by Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, he wanted to extend his knowledge and decided to study for a Master’s degree in the field – with a view to changing the direction of his career.

He said: “With the rise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) over the past few years I think there will be lots of potential for career opportunities. AI will change the way we interact with computers and machines if it can be regulated. But if it is used for the benefit of mankind, used to solve problems, it can help to make tasks easier so we don’t have to do the same thing over and over.

“I’m really interested in pursuing a career that might change things for the better in the world, or to teach young people. I’m elated to be graduating. My experience of learning at the University has been fantastic, I’ve met incredible people, my colleagues, my lecturers and there are a lot of learning resources available.

“It’s been a good journey so far and I’m so proud to have graduated. I’m from Nigeria and I have family members who have graduated in Nursing from the University, and in my country we use the UK education system as a benchmark – I wanted to come to the source to learn from the source.

“I would say it’s never too late, you’re never too young and you’re never too old. If I can do it, you can do it. You have to keep learning and one thing I’ve learned at the University is that you have to keep learning for life.
