University nationally recognised for transforming lives through access to Higher Education
The University of Wolverhampton has been shortlisted for the National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) Higher Education Institution of the Year Award 2026. NEON is the professional organisation that champions access to higher education and social mobility across the UK, and its awards recognise universities that excel in widening participation and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds to succeed. This national shortlisting places the University among the sector’s leaders in creating opportunity and transforming lives - a core part of its mission and long-term strategy.
Judges particularly highlighted the University’s strength in working collaboratively with schools, colleges and community organisations, helping learners raise aspirations and make informed choices about their futures. The University was also recognised for its careers and employability support, including the strong integration of professional placements and real‑world experience, ensuring students are well prepared for graduate‑level employment.
This national recognition comes alongside further success for the University. It has retained a top‑three position in England for social mobility, demonstrating its impact in helping students progress into positive outcomes. The University has also been shortlisted in five categories at the WhatUni Student Choice Awards, including University of the Year - awards voted for entirely by students.
Professor Ebrahim Adia, Vice Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, said:
“Social mobility sits at the heart of our strategy and our purpose as a university. I am extremely proud that this commitment has been recognised through our shortlisting for a NEON award, which places us among the very best institutions in the country. It reflects the significant effort and dedication of our staff, students and wider communities, working together to ensure that everyone who wishes to do so can benefit from the transformative impact of studying at the University of Wolverhampton.”
We are proud to work with partners across education and our communities to open doors to higher education, and to support our students, through high‑quality teaching, professional experience and careers guidance, to change their lives and those of future generations.”
Winners of the NEON Awards 2026 will be announced at a ceremony at the Palace of Westminster on Monday 3 June.
