Turn your ideas into images that inform, entertain and inspire with the BA (Hons) Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton. This studio-led course gives you the space to experiment across traditional and digital illustration, from drawing, printmaking and sequential storytelling to digital painting, 3D making, animation and mixed media. Along the way, modules including Engaging Audience, Exploring Innovation in Practice, Investigating Practice and Visual Enquiry and Ways of Seeing help you establish strong creative foundations and begin discovering where your own visual voice could take you.
As your practice develops, the course becomes increasingly focused on the professional world. Modules such as Developing Visual Practice, Professional Aims and Applications and Ways of Being challenge you to explore commercial applications for illustration, define your professional ambitions and take part in externally facing work. You’ll experience live briefs, professional projects, exhibitions, competitions, client-facing projects and networking opportunities, giving you valuable experience of responding to the kinds of challenges encountered in the creative industries. The course also includes opportunities for live projects and micro-placements.
By your final year, modules including Major Projects: Investigation and Development, Major Projects: Formulation and Realisation and Ways of Working give you the opportunity to build a distinctive, outward-facing body of work while creating a personal strategy for what comes next. Whether your ambitions lead towards editorial illustration, children’s books, comics and graphic novels, concept art for games and film, storyboarding, fashion illustration, advertising and marketing, publishing, surface pattern and giftware design, freelance practice or postgraduate study, you’ll graduate with a professional portfolio, a clearer creative identity and practical preparation for building a career in the creative industries.
