LLB (Hons) Law with Sandwich Placement

The module has been designed to maximise student engagement, understanding of the law and promote skills and employability. Students will acquire knowledge in the area of family law and develop practical and employability skills through face-to-face teaching, online activities and collaboration with peers. The learning and teaching approach of the module will give the opportunity for students: • To consolidate information taught and test immediate knowledge retention. • To gain a deeper understanding of legal issues through critical analysis and application of content. • To develop and reflect on the acquisition of legal and employability skills.

On completion of this module students should be able to understand the nature and structure of the different business structures/media (sole traders, partnerships and companies). Students will become familiar with business organisations, and more specifically an understanding of the corporate entity. Students should be able to select an appropriate business medium/structure to meet the client's commercial requirements. Students will be encouraged to communicate effectively to demonstrate knowledge of legal rules and principles. The module may provide students with the opportunity to be awarded digital badges for different skills and employability activities. Badges may be awarded for the completion of tasks and/or for completion of a self-directed series of activities. Once the tasks have been competed students will be awarded a digital badge that can be shared on portfolio websites such as LinkedIn. Students will be able to share the badges with prospective employers by adding them to a C.V.

This module will introduce students to the general principles of criminal law. It will include the study of several substantive criminal offences, highlighting the requirements of each crime according to the offence definition. The module will also consider the existence of defences to crime and when they may apply. Students will be taught how to apply the law to problem scenarios. The role of the criminal justice system in dealing with the accused is also considered.

This module will introduce you the basic principles of Real Property Law in England and Wales and the various rights and interests which can exist in real property, with particular reference to the development of legal and equitable rights and their protection in unregistered and registered land, acquiring title to land, trusts of land and co-ownership, leases and interests in land. This module will pull down barriers to understanding and project a searching and energizing spotlight over the complexities and uncertainties of the property law which will help you understand and apply the legal principles rather than deliver a treatment of the law. It will introduce the key themes Employers need to be aware of in order to comply with their obligations and act within the law. It will explore current issues from time to time for example dealing with underperformance, absenteeism and related contractual matters within the legal framework. Major topics for example dismissal and discrimination and rights within the workplace will also be covered.

Intellectual property is relevant to all who create or innovate. Students will acquire knowledge in intellectual property law, which regulates the use, creation and protection of creative works and inventions. The module focuses on current issues in this fast-developing area, through a social justice lens, considering the perspectives of multiple stakeholders. Through face-to-face teaching, online activities, and collaboration with their peers, students will acquire relevant knowledge and develop their research, transferable and employability related skills. The learning and teaching approach of the module will give the opportunity for students: • To consolidate information taught and test immediate knowledge retention. • To gain a deeper understanding of legal issues through critical analysis and application of content. • To develop and critically reflect on the acquisition of research, legal and transferable skills.
