Curriculum Resources : Storysacks
You can find our Curriculum Resources Collection at the end of the first floor of the Walsall Campus library. This is an expansive collection of textbooks, fiction books, big books, picture books, storysacks, artefact sets, games, and much more.
These are a great hands-on resource especially for our early years, education, and PGCE students to use in planning and placement in early years and primary settings.
Today we are focusing on storysacks, these are a collection of items that revolve around a story book. For example Elmer, includes an Elmer book and Elmer hand puppet, for more immersive storytelling. We also have kits that include activity cards or games which you can work through with a student or group. We have more than 40 different stories for in our collection ranging from classic fairy tales to popular stories like The Gruffalo.
You can go online to see what storysacks we have before making your way into the library via our online collection Curriculum Resources Collection - University of Wolverhampton (wlv.ac.uk). This collection is divided into subheadings such as Secondary Subjects, Primary Big Books, and Artefacts and Games.
Select the Artefacts and Games section and type storysack into the search to get a list of what's available.
Another sub-section E-magazines and Resource Banks provides the perfect complement to our physical resources, for example in this section you can link to Scholastic Resource Bank which has activity sheets, lesson plans, teaching ideas and crafted resources to use and be inspired by.
A related collection is our Children’s Online Library. This is a collection of fiction and non-fiction ebooks divided into topical subsections, including sections on Diversity, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Friendship, among others.
