About the BECCI Project

The BECCI Project benefits Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Black Country and Marches LEP areas of the West Midlands, by providing free support in the development of products and services that reduce carbon usage.

Our Focus:

Working across the Built Environment sector, the BECCI project seeks to develop products and services that reduce carbon usage, to improve the existing housing stock.

The fundamental driver for the BECCI project was the regional, national and international necessity to achieve substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. This was underpinned at a regional level by the strategy to make the West Midlands the UK’s first low-carbon regional economy. Our region has some large scale social housing programmes that will go a long way to meeting the national target, through retrofitting of their existing housing stock.

What We Do:

The BECCI project engages with SMEs, linking them to our academic experts to drive product and service innovation that will contribute to the UK campaign to reduce our C02 emissions. We understand that the sector is varied and fast moving, so the BECCI team provides practical support so help SMEs engage with these innovations.

Areas we support include insulation, building fabric, ventilation, heating and cooling controls, battery storage and smart grid.

The BECCI project resides within the Faculty of Science and Engineering which is part of the University of Wolverhampton.

European Regional Development Fund:

The BECCI project is receiving funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014 - 2021.

Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
