Every civil engineering graduate has a degree. Not every civil engineering graduate has twelve months of paid, professional experience on their CV before they've even sat their final exams. That's the difference this course is built around.
The BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering with Sandwich Placement is the four-year version of our ICE, CIHT, IHE and IStructE-accredited civil engineering degree, with a full Industrial Placement year inserted between your second and final year of study. You'll cover exactly the same accredited academic content as our three-year route, taught in the same £120 million labs at our Springfield site — but you'll go into your final year having already worked, been paid, and built a professional network inside the industry you're about to graduate into.
Choose the sandwich route if you want to:
- Bank a full year of industry experience: not a taster placement, but genuine, sustained time working in a civil engineering environment
- Graduate with a head start: many students receive job offers, or even sponsorship for further study, from the organisation they placed with
- Earn while you learn: most sandwich placements are paid, so you're building your CV and your bank balance at the same time
- Keep every accreditation intact: the same four professional bodies recognise this route as the three-year course, so your progression to IEng and CEng status isn't affected
- Test-drive your career: find out what working life as a civil engineer is actually like, before you commit to a graduate job
This course is accredited by:
