Wi-Fi - we use eduroam

Like most universities, we use eduroam for our Wi-Fi. It is free, and after initial set-up, great for roaming around campus, other universities and in countries all over the world.

To get set up you will need to be connected to the internet, either using your mobile data, your home wifi or the guest wifi network on campus. And your University email address and password.

You can get all your devices set up to connect before you come onto campus and then you just need to sign in!

IMPORTANT: you can install the geteduraom app using your home network, but you will need to sign in to eduroam once, when you are first on campus.

For mobile phones or tablets, go to your usual app store:

1. Search for the app called 'geteduroam', install and then open it.
2. In the 'search for an institution' box enter 'Wolverhampton' and select the University of Wolverhampton profile and click 'Next'.
3. Enter your University email address and password.
4. Sign in with your University email and password.

To get your laptops connected to eduroam:

  1. Visit https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=187
  2. Select the blue 'eduroam' button, this will download the correct profile for your operating system and device.
  3. Open up the downloaded file and click through the on screen prompts.
  4. Enter your University email and password.

Chromebooks:

Head to the same page as iOS & Windows - eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool and download the CAT tool, this will be an ONC file. Then, open a Google Chrome tab and in the top address bar, type: chrome://network/ this will look similar to the example below:

How to Import ONC File on a Chromebook - Chrome Story

Click Import ONC File at the bottom and select the ONC file for eduroam that was downloaded earlier, then try and connect to eduroam from your wifi settings. You may see another popup asking for your login details, this will also be your University IT account credentials. Login and eduroam should be connected.

The settings required to access eduroam are set automatically, but you must connect your laptop to the wired network at least once to get them installed.

To check if this has already happened, click Start, then select Control Panel, followed by Network and Sharing Center, then click on Manage wireless networks. If an entry for eduroam appears in the list, then it is ready for use. If not, contact the IT Service Desk on ext. 2000 (01902 322000).

If you are having issues connecting to eduroam - you may need to forget the other University wireless networks on your device such as wlvstaff, then try connecting again to eduroam.
