SPARK celebrates as Wolverhampton named a top entrepreneurial city

Wolverhampton has been named one of the top entrepreneurial cities in the UK, according to a data released by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and a Census Wide survey of over 1000 entrepreneurs.

The data from BEIS and Superscript’s analysis highlights the importance of providing the right environment for entrepreneurs to thrive. Wolverhampton is home to a number of initiatives that support and encourage entrepreneurship, and this is reflected in the city’s growth in start-up and scale-up businesses over the last five years.

The report highlighted Wolverhampton’s strong performance in the areas of technology and innovation and highlighted the city’s strong entrepreneurial spirit, which over the last 5 years has been evident in SPARK Business Incubation Centre with its community of dedicated tech, creative and science entrepreneurs.

Located at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, SPARK Incubator is committed to supporting entrepreneurial and creative endeavours by providing enterprising individuals and teams the support and resources they need to be successful. We actively encourage our start-up companies to join in our collaborative environment.  We believe that the SPARK community and the relationships that develop between entrepreneurs and with regional support organisations are an important factor in achieving long-term business success and sustainability.

As a result, SPARK’s entrepreneurs are committed to the city, looking to create stable enterprises that retain skilled employees within the region whilst supporting the Universities commitment to place. Many of our entrepreneur’s past and present are alumni of the University of Wolverhampton and they have successfully launched their own businesses creating both placement and employment opportunities for skilled graduates within the city.

Louise Hunter, Business Incubation Manager at SPARK Business Incubation Centre, said: “It’s easy to see why Wolverhampton is a positive and exciting place for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. With its central location and transport links, access to markets and commitment to supporting start-up businesses.

“The University is a key player encompassing entrepreneurship within its undergraduate study, providing business start-up support through dedicated programmes, links to regional start up support organisations, student placements, knowledge transfer opportunities and modern incubator space and resources.

“We are proud to be part of a city that is actively supporting entrepreneurship and look forward to helping build an even stronger and more vibrant entrepreneurial community in Wolverhampton.”
