The University of Wolverhampton has renewed its longstanding Patronage with the Black Country Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber’s Patrons, looked after by Head of Premium Membership, Gail Arnold, work as strategic partners alongside the region’s leading business support organisation whilst working hand in hand to support the Chamber’s work as they champion local businesses.

The University, which ranked as number 1 in the UK for teaching first generation students in the Daily Mail League Tables – those who are the first in their family to go to university - works collaboratively with the Chamber helping to educate and influence the region’s workforce of tomorrow, whilst working with businesses across the region to identify skills required for the ever-evolving workplace.

Richard Nicklin, Deputy Director for Business Engagement at the University of Wolverhampton, said, “The University of Wolverhampton is proud to renew its Black Country Chamber of Commerce Patronage for the twenty second year in a row.

“The role of the Chambers is pivotal to ensuring the voice and needs of Black Country businesses are heard and supported. Recent economic instability has brought home the importance of working in partnership to support our communities, and none more so than the business community in the region.

“We look forward to working alongside the Chamber and its members as we continue to meet the challenges of an uncertain economic environment.

“Engaging with business organisations of all sizes - to share knowledge, encourage innovation and support enterprise - is a vital part of the University’s commitment to invest in research, education, training, and skills within the Black Country. As a Patron we believe that collaboration is key to maximising opportunities, restoring faith in the region, and collectively ensuring that our local communities continue to thrive.”

In recent years, a number of the University’s Photography and Fine Art degree students have worked closely with the Chamber to capture front cover images for the Chamber’s business magazine, Prosper, the region’s longest running business publication.

Graduating last month, Alina Ahmand whose studio session created the front cover picturing the Black Country Chamber’s businessperson of the year 2022, Paul Hull, entrepreneur, and co-owner of KMB Shipping said: “To have the opportunity to take these images as part of my degree course and graduate with a magazine front cover already in my portfolio, has been amazing.

“I am so grateful to the team at the Chamber for championing my work and giving me the opportunity.”

Gail Arnold, Head of Premium Membership said: “We are very grateful to the University for allowing us access to their amazing facilities and the expertise they have that helps us create our very popular magazine.

“Collectively, our Patrons are well-known organisations that hold years of experience supporting people and businesses across the region to develop, support and play a leading role in driving productivity and growth.

“I am delighted that the University, I have worked so closely with over many years, is continuing their Patronage with us and look forward to continuing our important work with both organisations.”
