The University of Wolverhampton has been awarded University of the Year at the prestigious Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2025, recognising its outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion in apprenticeship education.

The accolade was announced at the 10th annual Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards, held on Friday 7 November at the Hilton London Metropole. The event welcomed over 700 guests, celebrating a decade of championing apprenticeships and inclusive learning.

Since its inception in 2015, the awards have engaged more than 3,000 apprentices, 500 employers, and 100 learning providers, driving transformation across every major sector. Wolverhampton’s recognition follows its appointment as a patron of the Multicultural Apprenticeship and Skills Alliance in 2024, cementing its leadership in widening participation and promoting equality across all apprenticeship programmes.

The University stood alongside major organisations such as AstraZeneca, Royal Mail, and the BBC, honoured for their contributions to apprenticeships. The evening also spotlighted inspiring apprentice stories of resilience - overcoming homelessness, illness, and systemic barriers.

Jenny Cannon, Deputy Head of the School of Health and Wellbeing, said: “As the University of Opportunity, we are proud to break down barriers to education and create pathways for every learner to thrive. This award reflects our unwavering commitment to diversity, inclusion, and widening participation—ensuring that apprenticeships open doors for talent from all communities.”

The University of Wolverhampton offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across health, education, business, arts, social sciences, science, and engineering, alongside a growing portfolio of higher and degree apprenticeships.
