University Alumnus called to the Bar of England and Wales
The University of Wolverhampton is celebrating the success of alumnus Mudasir Khan, who has been formally called to the Bar of England and Wales, marking a significant personal milestone and highlighting the global impact of the University’s law programmes.
Originally from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, Mudasir graduated in 2024 with a postgraduate LLM Law Conversion degree from the University of Wolverhampton. His journey to qualification has been shaped by resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to justice.
Reflecting on his achievement, Mudasir said: “Being called to the Bar of England and Wales has always been a long-held ambition and a defining personal milestone for me. From an early stage, I knew I wanted to become a barrister – a profession that inspired me for its intellectual rigour, advocacy, and impact on society.”
Growing up in a region affected by terrorism and underdevelopment, Mudasir explains that the path to qualification was far from straightforward. Aspiring to practise law in England and Wales required him to overcome significant financial, academic and practical challenges.
“The journey involved overcoming many obstacles,” he said. “But those challenges only strengthened my determination and commitment to pursuing justice through the law.”
Mudasir completed his undergraduate LLB at the University of Peshawar, alongside part-time work as a paralegal. He later trained and practised as an Advocate in Pakistan before deciding to pursue legal qualification in the UK. Following extensive research, he chose the University of Wolverhampton for its LLM Law Conversion, one of the few programmes offering a clear and structured pathway into the English legal system.
“The University of Wolverhampton played a pivotal role in my journey,” Mudasir said. “The course structure, the quality of teaching, and the emphasis on practical legal education gave me the academic grounding and confidence I needed for Bar training.”
After completing his studies, Mudasir joined the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in February 2024 and began the Bar Practice Course later that year. On 27 November 2025, he was formally called to the Bar - a moment he describes as “one of immense pride for both me and my family”.
He is now preparing for the next stage of his career: pupillage, the final step before practising independently as a barrister. In the meantime, he plans to undertake County Court advocacy work to develop further courtroom experience.
Reflecting on his time at Wolverhampton, Mudasir highlighted the University’s supportive learning environment, access to the Legal Advice Centre, and the flexibility to balance study with part-time work as an interpreter.
“The teaching encouraged critical thinking rather than rote learning, which significantly enhanced my legal reasoning skills,” he said.
Mudasir’s achievement stands as an inspiring example for current and prospective students, demonstrating how University of Wolverhampton graduates - both UK and international - can progress to the Bar and build successful legal careers on the global stage.
