What happens on the course?

Our BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing you for a rewarding career in modern healthcare. Through evidence-based learning, innovative teaching, and extensive clinical experience, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to practise as an autonomous physiotherapist upon qualification.

Teaching is delivered at our friendly, self-contained Walsall campus and complemented by practice placements across the local area, enabling you to apply your learning in real-world settings. Over the three years, you will complete a minimum of 1,000 hours of practice placement, meeting the requirements for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

The course is structured to support your learning at every level, helping you build confidence in the fundamentals before moving on to more complex skills. We use a spiral curriculum, which means you revisit key topics throughout the programme, each time developing deeper understanding and applying them in new ways.

Theoretical knowledge will be delivered in a variety of ways; you will take part in active and experiential learning, such as simulations, group work, problem-solving tasks, and real patient case discussions. These activities help you develop important skills, including teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and the ability to find and use reliable evidence. Practical sessions will be delivered in small groups to support students in developing hands-on clinical skills and provide opportunities to practise these skills with one another.

Digital fluency is also a key part of your learning journey. You will use digital platforms for communication, research, and reflection, and you will explore the ethical use of digital tools, AI, and patient data. This prepares you for modern healthcare environments where technology plays an essential role.

If you do not meet the entry requirements for this course, we do offer a Physiotherapy with Foundation Year route.

"I was really impressed with how much the university values mature students and recognises that life experience can be just as valuable, if not more so, than GCSEs or A-Levels.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment of university life. The course offered a great balance of theory, clinical skills, and placements. I particularly appreciated the variety of clinical placements, which included the NHS, professional sport, a student-led clinic, and private practice.

My lecturers; Jess, Gosia, Sophie, Katie, Brandon, and Troy have been outstanding - always available for guidance and support. I’m incredibly grateful for their dedication and encouragement throughout my journey.

Studying here has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life… I’ll never forget it, and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.”
