Most Computer Science Masters make you choose between breadth and depth. This one gives you both — and adds two things few competitor courses offer: genuine year-round entry, and dedicated Extended Reality (XR) development sitting alongside your AI and data modules.

What happens on the course?

This isn't a course you sit through in a fixed run from September to June. It's delivered in flexible teaching blocks, so wherever your start date falls, you build your Computer Science expertise step by step — each block a complete stage in its own right, and each one feeding into the next.

You'll start by learning to think and work like a postgraduate computer scientist

Research Methods & Professionalism sets you up from day one — covering research design, project planning, and the ethical, legal and professional standards expected in industry and research roles. It's also where you start shaping the idea that becomes your dissertation.

Then you'll go deep into your specialist modules

You'll build practical, portfolio-ready skills across Advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Mining and Analytics, Cloud Infrastructure and Platforms, Applied Database Systems, Advanced Software Engineering, Web Development, and XR Application Development. Several modules are deliberately linked — for example, your AI/ML and Data Mining work shares a common case study, so the dataset and insights you build in one block carry directly into the next, rather than starting from zero each time.

You'll learn by doing, not just by reading

Expect labs, workshops and team-based projects using the same tools professionals use — Unity for XR development, cloud platforms for infrastructure work, SQL for data, modern frameworks for the web. Assessment leans on realistic, scenario-led problems (coursework, practical builds, presentations) rather than closed-book exams, so you leave with things you can show an employer, not just a transcript.

You'll finish with your own research project

The 60-credit Computer Science Dissertation is the capstone: a self-directed, supervised piece of research or development work on a problem you choose, bringing together everything you've learned across the course.

These fees relate to new entrants only for the academic year indicated for entry onto the course, any subsequent years of study may be subject to an annual increase, usually in line with inflation.

Postgraduate Loan (Home Fee Status):

You may be able to get a postgraduate student loan from Student Finance England of up to £13,206 to help pay for a Master’s degree. Applications are made through Student Finance England and more information on the regulations and eligibility criteria can be found at Masters Loans gov.uk.

There is no time limit on how long ago you completed your degree as long as this is your first Masters level qualification.

Financial Hardship:

Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.
