What happens on the course?

Teaching follows a block delivery model, so wherever you join the course — September, November, January or March — each block is a coherent, self-contained stage of study that still builds towards the same overall MSc. Across the course you’ll move through the core themes of modern cyber security practice: information assurance and governance, secure infrastructure, cloud platforms, ethical hacking and penetration testing, cyber-physical and IoT security, incident response, and the use of generative AI and automation in security operations. The course closes with a substantial independent Dissertation, where you apply everything you’ve learned to a cyber security topic of your choice.

You’ll learn through a genuine mix of formats rather than lecture-only delivery:

  • Structured, tutor-supported tasks and directed independent enquiry

Assessment is designed to show what you can do with your knowledge, not just what you can recall — you’ll complete a mix of reports, technical analyses, scenario-based investigations, presentations and research tasks, depending on the module. Many modules build in formative feedback through workshop tasks and early developmental activities, so you can test your understanding and refine your approach before final submission — particularly important at postgraduate level, where assessment rewards analysis, judgement and independence over simple recall.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to operate as a rounded cyber security professional — someone who can secure systems, assess risk and communicate decisions with authority. The course groups its learning outcomes around knowing, doing and being:

These fees relate to new entrants only for the academic year indicated for entry onto the course, any subsequent years of study may be subject to an annual increase, usually in line with inflation.

Postgraduate Loan (Home Fee Status):

You may be able to get a postgraduate student loan from Student Finance England of up to £13,206 to help pay for a Master’s degree. Applications are made through Student Finance England and more information on the regulations and eligibility criteria can be found at Masters Loans gov.uk.

The University offers a generous 20% Loyalty Discount to students progressing from an undergraduate programme to a taught postgraduate programme, where both courses are University of Wolverhampton Awards.

There is no time limit on how long ago you completed your degree as long as this is your first Masters level qualification.

Self-funded:

If you are paying for the fees yourself then the fees can be paid in 3 instalments: November, January and April. More information can be found by clicking here.

Your employer, embassy or organisation agrees to pay all or part of your tuition fees; the University will refer to them as your sponsor and will invoice them for the appropriate amount.

We must receive notification of sponsorship in writing as soon as possible, and before enrolment, confirming that the sponsor will pay your tuition fees.


Financial Hardship:

Students can apply to the Dennis Turner Opportunity Fund for help with course related costs however this cannot be used for fees or to cover general living costs.

Most charities and trust funds offer limited bursaries targeted to specific groups of students so you will need to research whether any of them are relevant to your situation.
