Green Innovation Corridor development work underway at Springfield Campus

Construction work is underway to develop the Wolverhampton Green Innovation Corridor (GIC) at Springfield Campus. The main entrance to Springfield has been temporarily closed to both vehicles and pedestrians for the duration of the project. Please see alternate access routes below.

About the GIC

The Wolverhampton Green Innovation Corridor (GIC) is a major regeneration initiative led by the City of Wolverhampton and the University of Wolverhampton, aimed at creating an innovation district focused on green construction. The initiative will help place the University at the heart of place-based innovation, supporting sustainable economic growth while reinforcing our civic mission.

The University’s Springfield Campus is an integral component, with "Block A", a historical building near the entrance, becoming the Gateway to the GIC. Refurbishment and extension to this building will create a welcome reception and inspire green engineering innovation. The enhanced facility will comprise a project workshop, design and collaboration spaces. The University’s Green Biofuel Racing Team, Aerospace Programme and the School of Architecture and the Built Environment will help to strengthen collaboration with industry.

Alternative access routes

The main entrance to the Springfield Campus will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians for the duration of the project.

To ensure continued safe access to the campus, alternative routes have been put in place:

  • Pedestrian access: Pedestrians should use the adjacent access to the right of the main entrance off Grimstone Street.
  • Vehicle access: All vehicles should enter via the Cambridge Street entrance. You will need to use your ID card to raise the barrier on arrival.

Directional signage has been installed around the site to assist with identifying and following these routes.
Please refer to the map below, which highlights the alternative pedestrian routes (green) and vehicle access points (blue line with arrows).

A full version of the site access map can be downloaded as a pdf document
