LGBTQ+ History Month online event: Queer Spotlight
As part of the LGBTQ+ History Month programme, the staff network is hosting a Queer Spotlight online session that brings together colleagues and students from across the university to explore the power of visibility, authenticity and leadership.
A Moment to celebrate LGBTQ+ staff voices in leadership and STEM
- Date: Monday 23 February
- Time: 1.30pm to 2.30pm
- Venue: Online
This event is open to both staff and students.
Members of the science community will join this year’s programme to share insights into their work, experiences and the ways their identities intersect with STEM. Their contributions highlight how LGBTQ+ people shape scientific progress, challenge assumptions and expand possibilities. Hearing directly from colleagues in STEM reinforces the importance of representation not only in leadership, but also in research, innovation and everyday practice.
A senior leader will also reflect on queer leadership, exploring what it means to lead with authenticity, how identity influences leadership style and why representation at senior levels matters for the next generation of LGBTQ+ staff and students. Together, these voices demonstrate that LGBTQ+ leadership appears in many forms: in the lab, in the classroom, in offices and in the decisions that shape the institution. This session offers an opportunity to celebrate that diversity, learn from one another and continue building a culture where every colleague can thrive.
Attendance offers a chance to celebrate the many ways LGBTQ+ people contribute to the life and future of the University.
