The University of Wolverhampton proudly hosted their first Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) Outreach Hub event, marking a significant step forward in strengthening connections between sport and exercise sciences and the wider community.

Held at the University’s Walsall Campus, the event brought together University staff and local college students to experience workshops across a range of sport and exercise science topic areas, showcasing how applied sport and exercise science can make a meaningful difference to health and performance and inspire the next generation of scientists.

The CASES Hub initiative is designed to bridge the gap between research and practice, creating a platform where evidence-informed approaches can directly support local schools and colleges.

The event featured a series of interactive workshops and applied demonstrations delivered by academic staff and researchers. School and college students were given hands-on experience within the University’s sport science laboratories, gaining insight into how theory translates into real-world practice and how sport science supports both performance and health.

As part of the day, students also took part in a poster competition linked to the workshop themes. Participants were invited to produce academic posters based on the topics covered, applying their learning from the sessions. Selected entries will now be submitted to the national CASES poster competition, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their work on a wider stage.

The event welcomed Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science students from Halesowen College, who took part in workshops and the poster competition throughout the day.

Jim Clements, Curriculum and Employer Relations Lead (Sport) at Halesowen College, said:

“Our Level 3 Sports Science students thoroughly enjoyed their sports science workshops at the University of Wolverhampton as part of the CASES Outreach Day. Fantastic knowledge was passed on by the University staff, and the students were hugely impressed by the facilities in use. An inspiring day all round. A big thanks to Ross and the sport science team for their time and expertise.”

Following the success of the inaugural event, the University plans to host annual CASES Outreach Hub events to continue building partnerships and driving impact across the region.

By connecting research, practice and community, the CASES Outreach Hub reinforces the University of Wolverhampton’s commitment to excellence in sport and exercise science, ensuring that knowledge actively supports performance, health and wellbeing beyond the University campus.
