University celebrates number one UK ranking for STEM
The University of Wolverhampton is celebrating exceptional national recognition after being ranked 1st out of 55 UK institutions in the STEM category of the 2025 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES).
The result reflects the outstanding strength of the postgraduate research environment within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), with feedback from Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) highlighting the quality of supervision, research culture, resources, support, community, progression, skills, professional development and overall student experience across STEM disciplines.
This national achievement is the product of collective effort from supervisors, researchers, technical teams, professional services colleagues and the University’s senior leadership. Alongside the faculty’s commitment to building a supportive, research‑rich environment in which postgraduate researchers can thrive.
Professor Subashini Suresh, Director for Postgraduate Research Programmes, University of Wolverhampton said:
“This is a truly outstanding achievement for the Faculty of Science and Engineering and for the whole University. Over recent years, we have worked collaboratively and strategically to secure year‑on‑year improvements, embedding innovation and out‑of‑the‑box thinking across our processes. By acting on previous PRES results and implementing a clear, targeted strategy, we have strengthened the research environment and enhanced the support we offer to our postgraduate researchers.
I am incredibly proud of this result, and it further fuels our determination to continue enhancing the experience and opportunities we offer to our PGR community.”
This recognition marks a major milestone for postgraduate research at Wolverhampton and reinforces the University’s growing reputation for excellence across science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
