Campus Safety and Security

The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors is a shared responsibility. By remaining aware of our surroundings and looking out for one another, we can all help maintain a safe and welcoming University community.

The University of Wolverhampton is located within Wolverhampton city centre and on the outskirts of Walsall town centre. Both locations benefit from relatively low crime rates, and the University works proactively to provide a secure environment for everyone who studies, works or visits our campuses.

The University has a range of security measures in place to support the safety and wellbeing of our community. Our Security and Estates teams work closely with building managers, accommodation colleagues and external partners to ensure our campuses remain safe and secure. Security arrangements are regularly reviewed and updated to respond to emerging risks and changing circumstances.

Considering recent incidents across the UK affecting certain communities, it is important that we all remain vigilant and understand our role in helping to keep ourselves and others safe.

  1. Stay Vigilant

Be aware of your surroundings and report anything that appears unusual, suspicious or out of place.

  1. Carry Your University ID Card

Always carry your university student or staff card while on campus. This helps maintain campus security and provides access to university facilities and buildings.

  1. Download the SafeZone App

The SafeZone app allows you to quickly contact the University Security Team or request emergency assistance while on campus. We strongly encourage all staff and students to download and use the app.

Reporting Concerns

If something does not feel right or you notice suspicious behaviour, activity or items:

  • Call 999 immediately if there is an emergency or an immediate threat to life.
  • Report the incident to the University Security Team via the SafeZone app or by calling 01902 322106.

Our Security Team operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week across the University estate.

If there is an immediate threat to life, a crime in progress, or another serious incident requiring an urgent police response, you should:

  • Call 999 and ask for the Police.
  • Use 999 BSL if you are a British Sign Language (BSL) user.
  • Contact University Security on +44 (0)1902 322106.

Although uncommon, individuals acting on behalf of foreign states may attempt to recruit people in the UK to carry out tasks on their behalf. These approaches are often designed to conceal the involvement of those directing the activity and may seek information or assistance that could cause harm.

Approaches may take place online or in person and may involve offers of money, gifts or other incentives in exchange for what appear to be simple, one-off tasks. Examples may include:

  • Taking photographs of buildings, equipment or locations.
  • Sharing information about a place, organisation or individual.
  • Passing messages or information to another person.

Individuals who are vulnerable or experiencing financial difficulties may be more likely to be targeted.

If you are approached in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable or suspicious, do not engage further and report your concerns.

You can report suspicious activity or recruitment attempts by:

  • Calling the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321.
  • Reporting online at uk/ACT.

If a crime is taking place or you believe an offence may be committed, call 999 immediately and ask for the Police.
