Staying safe when travelling to and from campus

08/12/2025

As the days get shorter and the nights colder, it’s natural to feel a little uneasy, especially if you’re new to the area. Your safety and wellbeing matter to us, and we want you to feel supported while you study here.

A few simple tips when you’re out and about:

  • Stick to well-lit routes
  • Let someone know where you’re going
  • Travel with friends when you can
  • Wear bright clothing
  • Keep your phone charged

Whilst most University services take a break over the festive vacation, the Security Services Team operates 24/7.

Spending Christmas on campus? Download the SafeZone app

If you’re on campus, download the University’s SafeZone app. It’s the quickest way to:

  • Check in with our security team
  • Make an SOS call if you need help
  • Access wellbeing support and information

For urgent help, you can also call Security on: 01902 32 1555, or for general enquiries, call 01902 322106.

You’ll find more practical personal safety tips from West Midlands Police at saferstudents.co.uk and from our Security Services.

Stay safe, look out for each other, and remember, we’re here if you need us.
