Global Gathering brings F1-themed excitement to hundreds of international students
Global Gathering raced into Springfield with an F1-themed mixer that attracted hundreds of students from across all faculties for an evening of high-energy fun and connection.
The event, which took place on Thursday 13 November, welcomed a vibrant crowd of students to celebrate the University’s diverse global community. Global Gathering is more than an event, it is an initiative that helps students feel connected and supported as they start a new chapter at the University.
Students tested their skills on high-speed racing simulators, competed in wheel-change and arcade game challenges, and honed their reflexes on Batak reaction boards.
They also climbed into the cockpit of UWRacing’s single-seater F1-style car, enjoyed popcorn and candyfloss, and captured memories at a themed photo booth.
Beyond the adrenaline, the student-led event created a relaxed space for students to meet and engage with key university services, including Sport, Library Services, ASK@WLV, the Chaplaincy, Careers & Enterprise, and Student Life - helping students feel supported and valued.
Global Gathering co-founder and Head of Partner Records, Kate Faulkner, said: “Global Gathering keeps growing from strength to strength, and as a University-wide programme it is making a real difference to our international student community in particular.
“From the outset, the aim was to send a clear message: our international students are welcomed, valued, and supported by the entire university.”
Kate added: “Global Gathering relies on the goodwill of staff giving up their own time to make our students feel part of our pack. Their approachable presence and the friendly camaraderie at these events make Global Gathering such a draw for everyone who attends.
“Special thanks also go to the security team, caretakers, catering staff and cleaning staff, whose efforts ensured the evening ran safely and smoothly.”
The University is proud to have been shortlisted as a finalist at the national UKCISA awards for Global Gatherings in the 'Outstanding Student Support – Making a Home in the UK' category. The Awards were hosted in London on Wednesday 19 November.
The next Global Gathering Christmas Extravaganza takes place on Thursday 4 December. Entry is free, booking is required.
