The investment, via a new partnership agreement with Netball West Midlands Regional League, includes four England Netball standard courts with a brand-new high specification anti-slip netball surface, purpose-built floodlighting, and a spectator seating area.

The court will play host to numerous internal and external partners with the facility offering an opportunity for academic teaching, particular in sport, along with local communities and clubs having access to book the facility.

The university also has strong links with England Netball, where continued collaboration will take place to deliver participation and performance-based opportunities for all.

Richard Medcalf, Director of the Institute of Human Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton said: “We are so pleased to have opened our brand-new netball courts at our Walsall campus.

"Here at the University, we recognise how important it is to have high-quality facilities which support both elite performance sport and grassroots participation in physical activity.

"We look forward to seeing our students, staff and the local community making use of our new and improved facility and hope it will inspire more people across the Black Country and wider West Midlands to play netball.”

Sally Bromley, Head of Netball at the University said: “It’s fantastic to see the university improving their facilities for netball. I am currently working with local clubs and partners to get all levels of netball taking place on campus and looking for further contacts to reach out and discuss how we can work together to access the courts for the benefit of our students and netball.

“Our student netball programme is growing at a rapid rate and with our relationship with England and West Midlands netball, there are sure to be many opportunities for our students to be involved, whether it be playing, officiating, or coaching.”

The School of Sport, which is based at the University’s Walsall Campus, will lead on the enhanced strategy to grow netball provision with specific focus on student engagement and promoting more opportunities through the British University Colleges Sport competition.

The new courts were officially opened at the end of October with a staff and student netball fixture. To book our new netball courts or for any further information contact James.Dale@wlv.ac.uk.
