Student scores spot on FA Women’s Leadership Programme

A student from the School of Sport at the University of Wolverhampton has been accepted onto the FA University Women’s Leadership Programme.

The award-winning programme, which runs in partnership with British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) aims to unlock the potential of a diverse cohort of students aspiring to work in women’s football and provide a competitive edge when entering the job market.

Now in its fourth year, The University Women’s Leadership Programme seeks to bridge the gap between who students are, and what they are capable of, through theoretical and applied learning experiences.

The programme enables students to develop their skills, confidence, and professional network through a series of workshops, residential days, and networking events.

Cory-Ashleigh Hundal, who studies Sport and Exercise Therapy at the University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall Campus, will be part of the 2022-23 cohort, starting this Autumn.  

Cory, from Leicester, said: “I can’t believe I’ve got a place on the FA Universities Women’s Leadership Programme – it still hasn't kicked in that I have been accepted.

“Women’s representation in sport is so important and thanks to the recent success with the women’s euros and all the women competing in the Commonwealth Games, more young girls will be inspired to pursue careers in sport.

“I’m looking forward to participating in the activities, building my network and seeing where the programme takes me. I have so much support around me – both at the University and at home and I hope to continue making everyone proud.”

As a true advocate for women in sport, Corey supports a number of WLV Sport events alongside her studies such as judo, futsal and basketball.

“Cory’s passion for football and ‘changing the game’ for women is what makes her the perfect ambassador for WLV Sport and candidate for this opportunity.

“We look forward to seeing Cory’s natural leadership skills thrive and wish her the very best of luck on the programme.”

A number of FA employees will also be involved in mentoring and supporting the next cohort on the programme.
