The University of Wolverhampton recently welcomed back one of its own as Legal Practice Course (LPC) alumnus Daniel Tonks returned to campus to share his professional journey and insights with current law students.

Daniel, who graduated from the LPC in 2019, now works for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). During his visit, he delivered an engaging masterclass in which he spoke candidly about his academic experience, career progression and the practical steps required to secure a role within the highly competitive legal sector. He also provided students with a valuable and realistic insight into life working for the CPS, helping to demystify public service law and the expectations of the profession.

The session proved highly impactful, with students engaging enthusiastically throughout. Many remained after the class had finished to ask further questions and seek personalised advice, underlining the value of learning directly from an alumnus who has successfully navigated the same path they now aspire to follow.

Reflecting on his return to the University, Daniel said:

“Coming back to the University of Wolverhampton was incredibly rewarding. I remember how valuable it was to hear from professionals during my own studies, and I’m proud to be able to give something back. The support and encouragement I received here played a huge role in shaping my career, and I hope that sharing my experiences helps students feel more confident and better prepared for the legal profession.”

Daniel’s visit highlights the strong and lasting relationships the University maintains with its alumni, and the meaningful difference these connections make to students’ learning and employability. Alumni engagement plays a vital role in bridging the gap between academic study and the realities of professional life, offering students inspiration, practical insight and trusted guidance.

The visit also reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to employability, real-world learning and student success, demonstrating how alumni involvement helps students build clarity, ambition and confidence as they prepare to enter their chosen careers.
